A free indie game about outwitting Siren Head
Siren Head Resurrection is a free action-adventure video game wherein you must survive whatever dangers come out of the woods. Developed by show-more, this 3D single-player indie game is a survival horror fan game for the original creature design that became a popular internet monster, Siren Head.
Similar to Siren Head and Siren Head: Retribution, Siren Head Resurrection pits you against the titular monster. However, you will also face up against other enemies such as natural animal predators and the encroaching darkness and fog. Additionally, each playthrough is different from the last—with quest items and puzzle solutions changing.
Why is Siren Head so popular?
Created by artist Trevor Henderson, “Siren Head” is a 40-feet-tall humanoid monster with a skeletal body and a bunch of sirens for a head. Its creepy design, goosebump-inducing presence, and way of hunting its prey eventually gave it the notoriety for being “the next Slenderman” creature—and thus inspiring numerous fanmade games with it as the antagonist. Siren Head Resurrection is another title falling under this.
However, it prides itself on being a real horror challenge. For one, it has a high replay value as every playthrough randomizes quest items and puzzles. You must explore and backtrack to even progress in the story. You also get a New Game Plus mode after completing a run in Normal Mode. The difficulty here increases, with tougher enemies to encounter and your health regeneration significantly reduced.
There are multiple endings, minigames, and secrets available to keep you occupied, as well. The game really encourages you to experiment with your inventory and slowly map out the vast forest. However, while the graphics are beautiful, it’s quite taxing on your computer resources. You’ll need to adjust the settings accordingly for a smooth gameplay experience. Additionally, you can play with game controllers but it’s not fully supported.
A challenging endeavor
All in all, Siren Head Resurrection is not just another fan game for this popular monster design. Its horror elements hinge on slow build-up with the gameplay mechanics as you try to stay alive in a forest filled with other dangers and the game doesn’t just keep hashing out weak jumpscares. However, you’ll have to do a lot of graphic setting configurations to keep the game running smoothly.
